- The updated 7 Series was revealed earlier this year.
- Meanwhile, the X7 is the all-new flagship SUV from BMW.
After the new-gen X4 and refreshed X5, BMW India will launch the flagship sedan and SUV – the new 7 Series and the all-new X7 – in India on 25 July. Both the Bavarian flagships come with an imposing design language, a rejigged powertrain and updated interiors.
The refreshed 7 Series takes its inspiration from the 2014 Vision Future Luxury Concept. The 40 per cent larger air dam – which takes its cues from the X7 – is flanked by sleeker BMW Laser lights. As seen on the new X7, the new 7 Series’ grille too is upright and daunting and gets a chrome surround. The X7, on the other hand, is a full-size luxury SUV which seats seven in 7 Series’ comfort.
The cabin of both cars are comprehensively redesigned and are, yet, simple and functional – in typical BMW fashion. The standard feature now includes wireless charging, Harman/Kardon music system, new infotainment screen with the new generation of BMW's iDrive system, to name a few. There are a host of leather upholstery options along with all the features expected from a Luxo-barge.
Under the hood, the new 7 Series is expected to be available in the fully loaded M760Li guise. But a smaller straight-six diesel and a V8 are also on the cards. Apart from that, BMW might also introduce the plug-in hybrid variant of the 7 in India, but that should come at a later date. Meanwhile, the X7 might be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The straight-six in the 30d and 50d might be accompanied by a 50i petrol engine. Transmission for both vehicles is an eight-speed automatic. What’s more, there is a host of driver assists and off-road hardware as well along with BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.
When launched in India, the all-new X7 will lock horns with other full-size luxury SUVs like Mercedes-Benz GLS, Land Rover Range Rover, and Volvo XC90. The 7 Series will continue to rival the flagship sedans like the Audi A8, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Lexus LS and Jaguar XJ.
