Post much wait, the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo has been launched at a price of Rs 58 lakhs (ex-showroom, all-India). The new model replaces the 5 Series GT globally and gets a new name as part of BMW's efforts to realign its nomenclature to make way for newer models of their expanding product portfolio. The new model gets the same wheelbase as the 5 Series GT, however it is also reportedly longer by 87mm. The 6 Series GT sits 21mm lower and its overall height has been reduced by 64mm to give it a sportier appeal.
Mechanically, the 6 Series GT is offered with two petrol engine options – a 2.0-litre 225bhp turbo petrol and a 3.0-litre 335bhp V6 turbo petrol. The new model also gets a 263bhp 3.0-litre straight six turbodiesel option mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. BMW will offer the X-Drive all-wheel drive system as standard with the 3.0-litre mills with the 2.0-litre petrol coming in rear-wheel drive option only.
The new BMW 6 Series GT is reportedly lighter by 150kgs and offers more cabin space than its 5 Series sibling. As for the interior, the vehicle gets leather seat upholstery, three-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof and display screen in the centre console with power seats in the front and adjustable rear seats. The newly launched 6 Series GT also offers ample boot space.
