BMW had launched the all-new 6 Series in India at the Auto Expo earlier this year with only the petrol mill, priced at Rs 61.8 lakhs, ex-showroom Mumbai. As promised back then, BMW has introduced the diesel powertrain and it is offered in two trims - Luxury Line and M Sport, at Rs 66.55 lakhs and Rs 73.70 lakhs respectively.
The 6 Series now gets the 3.0-litre straight-six cylinder engine turbocharged diesel engine which develops 265bhp of power and a whopping 600Nm of torque from 2000rpm. Mated to an eight-speed automatic, power is sent to the rear wheels. The 6 Series also gets adaptive air suspension along with driving modes like Sport, Comfort, Comfort+, Eco and Adaptive.Â
The 6 Series GT is based on the 5 Series platform and sits taller than the sedan. The sloping roofline and taller deck-lid offers better headroom for the rear passenger and also more boot-space than the 5er. The styling is typically BMW with LED rings in the headlamps and the kidney grille.
The 6 Series competes against the likes of the Audi A5, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Jaguar XF in terms of direct competition. For the price of the 6 GT diesel, you can also get SUVs like the Audi Q5, the Volvo XC60, the Mercedes GLC and the BMW X3. There is always the Audi TT if you want something sportier.
