The BMW 2 Series was a replacement for the 1 Series coupe and was launched in 2014. The car was larger and practical with an economical engine than the car it replaced and also paved way for the competent M2. Now after two years, BMW is out testing the mid-life refreshment for the 2 Series.
The spied car was almost without any camouflage, save for some around the headlamp and grille and at the rear tail lamps. The headlamps receive new LED treatment which was introduced in the BMW family with the 7 Series and was also seen on the recently launched 5 Series sedan. The tail lamp, though of the same shape and design, will also receive some new LED lighting design as suggested by the camouflaged unit on the test mule.
For a keen eye, the grille looked a tad smaller than before and the front bumper, with bland air intakes, seemed subdued on the test car. The interior is reported to have undergone some tweaks as well. Under the hood, things will remain the same, but we can expect some of the engines in the range to be further tuned, to offer better performance, fuel economy and cleaner emission.
The 2 Series facelift will help the car soldier on for few more years until a proper replacement arrives. The facelifted 2 Series coupe and the convertible variant will be revealed next year.
