With just a day to go for its official launch the BMW 2 Series is becoming a secret hard to keep. German magazine Auto Bild has ‘incidentally’ published a video which fully reveals the BMW 2 Series Coupe ahead of its official debut tomorrow.
A few days ago the Bavarian automaker gave us an official teaser video of the BMW 2 Series. Also leaked photos of the BMW 2 Series Coupe made their way onto the Internet. The ‘leaked’ picture above is the M235i Coupe in red, which looks similar to the car teased in the video earlier this week.
We already have the specifications of the three variants as leaked by the company’s South African website, we reported it as: Official specs of BMW 2 Series leaked online.
The all-new model will be available as the 220i, 220d and the top model being M235i. Shown in the magazine’s editorial is the 220d model with a light bronze paint scheme. This model features a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel unit producing 181bhp and 380 Nm torque, the auto-box-equipped 220d will hit 100kph from standstill in 7.1 seconds and has a top speed of 235kph. There will also be a more affordable 218d model featuring the same engine but detuned to 140bhp.
Other than the obvious addition of a proper boot, the car is further differentiated from the 1 Series hatchback with a completely new front end which gets rid of the One’s droopy face.
The exact prices will be revealed closer to the European launch and its India debut will be somewhere in the second quarter of fiscal year 2014. We will not get the M235i in the sub-continent, but both the other versions will probably make its way here to compete with the upcoming Mercedes CLA and Audi A3.
