It’s common knowledge that BMW is revamping its current line-up with facelifts and mid-life updates. So it didn’t come as a surprise today when we came across these first ever spy shots of the 2-Series Active Tourer, which was spotted at the manufacturer’s headquarters in Munich.
Earlier this year, the 4 Series line-up received a minor cosmetic makeover and now it looks like the 2 Series too will follow suit. Judging by the minimal masking on the test mule, it looks like the 2-Series too will only receive minor updates like the 4-Series.
The little camouflage that we spotted primarily covered the fascia and rear bumper. So it is likely that the facelifted car might now sport a new LED lighting signature - currently followed by the entire BMW range. The prototype we spotted here is the 225xe iPerformance variant, which is a top-of-the-line hybrid. We reckon that the facelift will include an updated cabin, new upholstery and fancy alloy wheels. The powertrain, however, will be carried over, but with improved efficiency.
When BMW first revealed the 2-Series Active Tourer back in 2014, it came as a huge shock to the BMW purist. Though the front-wheel driven family mover is practical and spacious, its quirky design and disproportionate appearance are alien to BMW. However, BMW gave the 2 Series Active Tourer a host of features like adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, traffic jam assist, parking assist and the iDrive multimedia system. Along with it, there is a range of fun-to-drive engine options. Based on the Mini platform, the 2-Active Tourer witnessed a fair share of sales in the European market.
BMW recently announced a long line-up of 40 models across its three brands in the next two years. These 40 vehicles would include the introduction of newer models and overhauling of the current product line-up. The facelifted 2-Series Active Tourer could be a part of that plan and will likely be showcased later this year.
