The seven-seater version of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer has been spotted on test in China. The 2 Series Active Tourer was launched by the German automaker last year and that time it had hinted at the launch of an expanded version by the middle of this year. These are the most comprehensive pictures of the vehicle indicating its arrival very soon.
The test vehicle has no camouflage right up to behind the B-pillar after which we can see the swirly designs attempting to hide an extended D-pillar. Other than the extension, it looks exactly the same as its five-seater sibling.
BMW’s shift to the UKL1 front-wheel drive platform for the 2 Series Active Tourer has allowed the German automaker a design opportunity to offer more space as compared to the an equivalent RWD design.
The five seater 2 Series Active Tourer is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine as well as a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine being offered in multiple states of tune. Gearbox options include a six-speed manual or eight speed AT. XDrive is optional in the diesel variants. We believe that these engine options will be carried over with no changes for the seven-seater variant.
BMW India has revealed no plans to bring the 2 Series range to India. However, with the 1 Series not doing so well, it seems possible that this vehicle maybe brought in to replace the hatchback.
