The India bound BMW 1 Series sedan has been spotted on test in Europe. It is the first time that BMW will add a sedan body design to the 1 Series line-up and is likely to include an estate design to cater to European tastes.
It appears to carry many of the design elements of the recently unveiled 1 Series hatchback but will have a nice roomy boot to add to the package.
The 1 Series sedan will be a part of the next generation BMW small cars when it comes to underpinnings as it will make use of the UKL-1 front-wheel drive platform that currently underpins the new generation of Minis, 2 Series Gran Tourer and 2 Series Active Tourer.
The interior will be carried over from the hatchback while we expect that the engine line-up will comprise three-cylinder and four-cylinder diesel and petrol engines. It is expected to be launched sometime next year and for the Indian market it will replace the hatchback that is currently on sale.
