BMW India has launched a special edition model of the 1 Series premium hatchback in India called the M Performance Edition. Not to be mistaken for a full-blown sportier model of the car, the special edition gets minor cosmetic upgrades like offset racings stripes and different fog lamp inserts and a full mesh air dam under the kidney grille without slats with M lettering on the side sills. It also gets a spoiler and fins at the rear to give high speed stability and a sporty look. The car also gets M performance badges to add to that special edition feel. To add to the exclusivity of this new variant BMW will only offer 111 units for sale.
Currently, BMW has four variants of the car on sale in India – 116i (petrol), 118d, 118d Sport Line and 118d Sport Plus. Unlike some manufacturers who choose a single variant and rebadge it as a special edition, the German carmaker has made this variant available across the range.
While it most definitely seems like a move to counter Mercedes-Benz’s recent introduction of the A-Class Edition 1 it might also help them boost the sales of the 1 Series which has been a bit disappointing. The BMW 1 Series, unlike the competition, is the sole rear-wheel-drive hatchback in the market and unfortunately BMW hasn’t sold many of it.
BMW 1 Series M Performance Edition price (ex-showroom India):
The BMW 116i M Performance Edition: Rs 22.65 lakh

The BMW 118d Sport M Performance Edition: Rs 28.55 lakh
