A lot of new cars (including affordable mainstream models) nowadays come with the keyless entry feature. If you happen to drive one you’d know of the convenience that comes along with an intelligent key fob. There is no rummaging in your pocket and neither is there any of the ‘slot in and twist’ action to unlock the doors. As long as the fob is in your pocket, the car unlocks itself as you approach.
Now though, regardless of how old or new your car is (as long as it’s got central locking), you can get the convenience of a keyless entry with a new smartphone-based car security system. The product is called BluKooki and like many new tech-based accessories for cars, it relies heavily on a smartphone, in this case to turn your central locking system into an automated affair.
This system does require an app to be installed on to your smartphone, but the former doesn't have to be launched every time you unlock or lock the vehicle. It works in a similar manner as a keyless entry feature, sensing the driver coming towards the car and unlocking it. Similarly, when the driver walks away from the car, the system recognises the action and automatically locks it.
Besides offering basic security, the system app also has something called Last Parking Location. Basically, it will automatically detect the car’s last parking location and let the user know of its whereabouts.
BluKooki is currently available online for Rs 3,490. Doorstep installation and the smartphone app, on the other hand, come at no cost. Now although what you see here works entirely via Bluetooth, there is also BluKooki 2 which can be connected to the car’s OBD port. The latter is expected to launch later this month.
