British luxury carmaker Bentley has taken the covers off its Mulsanne-based Hybrid Concept at the ongoing Beijing Auto Show. Joining the fray of ever-growing carmakers who are taking the green route, Bentley says it has envisioned a more powerful and even more efficient future for its model line-up with the Hybrid Concept.
The Hybrid Concept, which is based on Bentley’s flagship – the Mulsanne, can cover up to 50 kilometers on electric power alone. What’s more? Bentley says that the plug-in hybrid system increases power by up to 25 per cent and reduces emissions by 70 per cent.
With another plug-in hybrid SUV expected to be introduced in 2017, Bentley is betting big on hybrid technology. The company has even revealed that at least 90 per cent of its model line-up will be available as a plug-in hybrid by the end of the decade. Dr Wolfgang Schreiber, Chairman and Chief Executive of Bentley Motors, commented: “Adding performance and efficiency with no compromise to luxury –Plug-in hybrids are an important part of Bentley’s exciting future and we are proud to be pioneering these developments in the ultra-luxury sector.”
