Bentley has disclosed that it will debut the Bentayga plug-in hybrid (PHEV) at the Geneva Motor Show which kicks off in March 2018.
Reports claim that the powertrain in the Bentayga PHEV will be similar to the drivetrain in the Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid. The Porsche uses an electric motor that’s coupled to a 2.9-litre V6 engine which makes a total of 462bhp, while also delivering a range of 48km in all-electric mode. So, we can roughly expect the same output in the plug-in Bentayga.
Reports also state that Bentley is working towards a new V8 petrol motor for the Bentayga line-up. It will essentially be a retuned version of the VW Group’s 4.0-litre bi-turbo motor. This powertrain makes 550bhp/770Nm in the Porsche Cayenne and 650bhp/850Nm in the Lamborghini Urus. It is believed that this engine will also be available on the Bentayga in the months to come.
With the Bentayga being Bentley’s most popular model at the moment, the PHEV variant is expected to stir up some interest in the electrified times to come. Stay tuned to CarWale for more information.
