The Mulsanne is Bentley’s flagship luxury sedan which boasts of an elegant, stately design and packs in top-notch materials. It replaced the old Arnage when it arrived in 2010 and since then, it ranks among the most luxurious full-size sedans in the world.
Known for its ability to mask speed incredibly well, the Mulsanne is more of a luxury barge cruiser than a thorough high-performance vehicle. However, that could all change soon if a recent Auto Express report is to be believed.
According to the report, Bentley is currently working on a new high-performance version of the Mulsanne due later this year. The vehicle is expected to be badged Mulsanne Speed, like other high performance Bentley models.
The high-performance version is likely to make use of the same 6.75-litre twin-turbo V8 used in the standard Mulsanne but with increased power output to around 550bhp. The standard model currently makes 505bhp. The rise in power will not only drop the car’s existing 0-100kmph time to under five seconds, but also push the top speed to nearly 320kmph.
The Mulsanne Speed is expected to make its debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show in October, followed by late-2014 or early-2015 launch.
