Bentley may launch a hardcore RWD Continental GT3 next year. This will be the second performance oriented model from VW- owned luxury car maker after the performance- oriented track spec Continental GT3-R that was launched last year.
A report from Autocar UK quotes Rolf Frech, head of engineering at Bentley as saying that a lot of people expected the GT3-R to be RWD but because they needed it at the end of their first season of GT3 racing they did not have time to work on the drive-train. He goes on to add that they have the concept for the RWD spec- car ready so accordingly, they will build it.
It is expected to make use of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that will send over 572bhp to the rear wheels. One of the main areas where they are believed to be fully putting in their efforts is in a secondary round of weight loss for this car. The saving will most likely be 200kgs of which less than half will come from the RWD conversion. The interior will be stripped out and there will be a lot of carbon fibre and plastic parts. The told build maybe around 30 units with a price tag of 300,000 GBP (Rs 2.7 crore).
