Bentley plans to kick start its next stint at racing with the 2014 Continental GT3 racer. The race car will make its official world debut at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K. next week. It was first showcased at the Paris Motor Show last year, and will mark Bentley’s return to motorsport after almost 10 years.
The GT3 follows Bentley’s philosophy of developing race spec cars from their road legal siblings. Sticking to this concept, the GT3 will be powered by a modified version of the twin-turbo 4.0-litre V-8 engine that sits inside the Continental GT V8. Its predecessor, the Bentley Speed 8 prototype that won the Le Mans in 2003 was also powered by a similar spec engine and will accompany the GT3 at the Goodwood festival.
Bentley has not yet announced the races that the car will compete in, though more details are expected to be shared at the event next week. The car will start testing later this year ahead of the 2014 motorsport season.
