- will compete in the production class
- car will be piloted by Pikes Peak veteran Rhys Millen
We had already spoken about Bentley wanting to have a go at the Pikes Peak with its SUV the Bentayga and you can read about it here. And now with the testing over, Bentley is all set to make its record attempt over the weekend. The current record is held by a Range Rover Sport but Bentley is confident it will be able to set the benchmark.
The competing Bentayga looks pretty much stock from the outside and the only thing standing out is the green wrap job. The car is being prepared by none other than Bentley’s motorsport department. Under the hood, the Bentayga is running its standard 6-litre, W12 twin-turbo engine which pushes out an insane 600bhp.
The Bentayga will be running in an exhibition class meaning it will stay as true as possible to its standard specification. Changes to the car include the electric chair being replaced by a carbon fiber safety seat and the removal of all other seats. The panoramic glass roof, standard on the road car, is replaced with an infill panel. Trim and extraneous equipment will be removed, and a roll-cage and fire extinguisher installed. Aiding stopping power will be the carbon ceramic brakes which are offered as an option on the standard car.
Will the Bentayga be able to set a record? We will find out over the weekend. Stay tuned!
