The Bentley Bentayga SUV has been launched at a private event in China for 4.8 million Yuan (Rs 4.9 crore). This is the first market to get the ultra-luxurious SUV with deliveries starting in April. The model that has been launched is called the ‘First Edition’ and is a limited production series. The standard Bentayga is expected to arrive next year and will be priced a million Yuan lesser.
It is the first SUV from the luxury British automaker and was first shown as the EXP 9F at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. They then unveiled the car at this year’s Geneva Motor Show and said that sales in Europe would begin from next year which makes the Chinese launch quite a surprise.
The Bentayga gets all of Bentley’s modern design cues of which the most noticeable is the fascia and obviously the Winged B logo. The cabin is very similar to that of the Continental GT and like the rest of the car is highly customisable. It is powered by a 6.0-litre W12 engine that produces 600bhp and a mammoth 900Nm of torque. There is expected to be a V8 petrol as well as one version which will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 diesel from the soon-to-be launched Audi SQ7.
Coming back to the China-spec ‘First Edition’, it appears to be the same car but will get a whole bunch of limited editions badges and most likely a whole list of added customisations options over the standard list. Despite the exorbitant price, Bentley is believed to have got sufficient demand from China with reports suggesting that many buyers even put down their deposits before seeing the car in the metal.
