Bentley has announced a diesel-powered version of its new SUV, the Bentayga. To be the first-ever Bentley with a diesel engine, the Bentayga is slated to get the brand new 4.0-litre V8 engine that boasts of an electrically powered supercharger along with the twin turbos.
The 4.0-litre V8 has been borrowed from the Audi SQ7 and belts out 429bhp of power and a massive 900Nm of torque and sends power to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The 900Nm of torque ensures that the large SUV is propelled past 100kmph from standstill in 4.8 seconds and the power figures take it to a top whack of 270kmph. The 4.0-litre diesel V8 is one of the first production engines to employ electric powered forced induction. The supercharger is said to provide boost right from the go with help of the 48V motor after which the twin turbochargers keep generating boost. With the new, comparatively efficient, engine combined with a large fuel tank, the Bentley can potentially go for 1,000kms in a tank-full.
Being a Bentley, the cabin is as luxurious as it can get in automobiles. You can opt for the new Liquid Amber veneers for the interior. You could also get your Bentley customised by Mulliner – a famed Bentley customisation house, officially through Bentley. The Bentley Dynamic Ride system will ensure comfort over all terrains thanks to the 48V electrically powered stability program. You can also get the top of the line 18 speaker 1950 watt audio system by Naim.
The diesel engine powered Bentley will be available for customers in Europe early next year followed by Russia, South Africa, Australia and other countries. For those who would want to buy the luxury Bentley SUV in India, you will have to probably wait till end of 2017 for the car if not 2018.
