The Bajaj RE60 has been spotted testing near Pune. The car was first shown during the 2012 Auto Expo and was then officially unveiled last month by the Chakan-based two-wheeler maker. They are currently awaiting word from the government on certain concessions before putting it into production. As a part of the spy pictures we have got some details on the instrument cluster as well on the tyres that the RE60 will be using in the production version.
The instrument cluster is a centrally mounted one piece unit that is dominated by the speedometer in the centre and warning lights on both sides. The lower half of the cluster has a digital fuel gauge as well as what appears to be two trip meters.
The Bajaj RE60 will ride on 135/70 R12 tyres and has been fitted with special wheels. However, it is believed that the vehicle that has been spotted is the personal version that will be sold to individual buyers. The people carrier version is expected to use metal wheels with plastic wheel covers.
The RE60 is powered by a 200cc DTS-i engine, the same mill that sat in the original Pulsar 200 motorcycle. This engine produces 20bhp and will propel the RE60 to a top speed of 70 kmph with a fuel efficiency of around of 35kmpl.
Its small proportions should make it easy to park as well as navigate on increasingly congested city roads. The RE60 is expected to compete with autos (where Bajaj is a segment leader) as a mode of public transport for intra-city commuting rather than with vehicles like the Tata Nano which still holds the crown of the lowest-priced car in India.
