Basically with a simple model year update, the flashy new NX crossover from Lexus took the stage at the Shanghai Motor Show. The slight cosmetic updates keep the car fresh, while new interior trims are a welcome addition. The base variant is rebadged to NX300 instead of NX200t.
The most prominent changes are the headlight signature with three point projectors, similar to the one seen on the all-new LC Coupe. There are other tweaks to the fascia around the imposing spindle grille, reworked bumpers and modified fog lamps, along with new satin and smoked chrome trim elements. At the rear, taillights are reworked, the bumpers are larger, with bigger exhaust tip, and slightly reshaped lower diffuser. A newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels are also part of the update.
On the inside, the infotainment touchscreen has grown 7inches to 10.3inches. There’s a special metallic satin finish to all the switches and controls. Other feature upgrades include a bigger wireless smartphone charger, automatic tailgate, better HUD visibility, and a larger remote touch interface.
The powertrain remains the same as before. The 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine producing 235bhp powers the now renamed NX300. The NX300h, on the other hand, continues with its 2.5-litre hybrid setup in conjunction with two electric motors. A more potent NX F Sport guise is also available. Though mechanicals isn't changed drastically, Lexus says that the suspension has been tuned to improve ride and handling. The addition of Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), with stiffer springs, stabiliser bars and bushings are tuned to offer enhanced turn-in response and better cornering. On the safety front, Lexus’s Safety System + comes as standard fitment.
This updated NX will go on sale later this year, as a 2018 model. Pricing will be announced closer to the market launch and is expected to be slightly higher than the current prices. The new NX crossover is expected to make its way to Indian shores following Lexus’ Indian debut.
