Audi has unveiled the RS5 TDI to celebrate 25 years of TDI engines. This is the first time the German automaker has slapped on the RS badge onto a diesel car. This car will be officially unveiled at the AMI Leipzig event scheduled to be held next month.
As the name suggests the RS5 TDI is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that produces 383bhp and a whopping 750Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed AT and the quattro four-wheel-drive system. Audi says the top speed is in excess of 280kmph with the 100kmph mark coming up in just four seconds.
This engine replaces a 4.2-litre V8 petrol unit that produces 455bhp and 430Nm of torque. The party piece of this engine is that it has an electrically driven supercharger, which the company says will eliminate any form of turbo lag.
Audi’s diesel engines have a reputation for being powerful as well as very reliable and it seems that this car is a tribute to that image.
