Audi has said Auf Wiedersehen to its flagship R8 super car in the most German way possible at the 2014 LA Auto Show. It has unveiled a more powerful version (and final) of the already powerful car. Dubbed the 2015 R8 competition, it is the last edition of what is considered to be the previous decade’s most economical supercars.
Let’s get to what is important right at the beginning. - It is powered by the same 5.2-litre V10 mill from the V10 Plus model but has now been tuned to produce 570bhp and an increase of 20bhp over the stock engine. Power is sent to all four-wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch S –Tronic gearbox.
It seems the added 20bhp was not enough for Audi to make the competition special enough so it has replaced various parts of the body with matte carbon fibre equivalents. This list includes fixed rear spoiler, engine bay, mirror housings, side blades, front spoiler and rear diffuser. Also included in the deal are gloss-black wheels, 305 cross section rear tyres and ceramic brakes.
Inside, apart from all the usual luxuries that the car already comes loaded with, there is matte carbon fibre treatment including the centre console and illuminated "R8 competition" door sill inlays.
The US market will get only 60 units of the limited edition R8 with the rest heading off to the Middle East, China and obviously countries in Europe.
