The 2013 Audi R8 has already been announced. Excited as we are for its release, Audi is not done yet with the current model. Wanting to end the current lineup with one last bang (or maybe just sweetening the deal for the last few to purchase the outgoing car) it has put in production a limited version of the 2012 car called the Exclusive Selection Edition.
50 cars will be made of which 20 will be the V8 variant and 30 the V10 guise. On the outside, the ‘special edition’ changes include a carbon fiber splitter, special 19-inch wheels, a carbon fiber rear diffuser, new design elements on the grille and exhaust, R8 GT tail lamps and red brake calipers.
The interiors too have been revised. A thicker multi-functional steering wheel, leather seats with contrast stitching, a new navigation system and a new sound system are a part of the changes as well. Audi has been generous with their use of carbon fiber and have used it on many parts of the car. Both models can be ordered with either a six-speed manual or the Audi special R-tronic transmission.
The special edition V8 will retail for $137,000, while the V10 engined model will sell for $161,500 in the US market. The R8 has always been understated but highly successful thanks to the mixture of madness and practicality that it offers the customer. The extra-special end to the 2012 model will ensure that all the examples built will find homes before the sharper 2013 model goes on sale.
