Audi has unveiled a special version of the Audi TT called the Ultra quattro. Autocar UK reveals that the car is based on the TT S quattro. It has been created by the company as the centre piece of a display that will be show during parent company Volkswagen’s Wörthersee fan meet that is scheduled to be held next month.
The car was created as a result of Audi’s experiments in weight reduction that include the use of an specially optimised space frame that has materials made from carbon fibre reinforced plastic and magnesium. Carbon fibre has also been used in the creation of the bumpers, hood, roof, sills and tailgate.
Other measures include carbon ceramic brakes, cameras in place of the OVRMs, titanium exhaust pipes; lithium-ion battery in place of a lead acid one, glass fibre reinforced plastic coil springs and alloy wheels made from a combination of carbon fibre and aluminium.
Inside too Audi have extensively used carbon fibre in the interiors in a bid to shed weight but have managed to retain all the luxuries found on the standard car. The German automakers endeavours and experiments have resulted in the car shedding an incredible 299kgs over the standard TT S and now tip the scales at just 1.1tonnes.
Power is derived from a 2.0-litre four cylinder turbocharged engine that now produces 344bhp as compared to the standard car’s 306bhp. The torque figure is now up from the standard car’s 362Nm to 399Nm. Power is transmitted to all four wheels via a six-speed manual and the German Automakers quattro four-wheel drive system. The car is capable of doing 0-100 in 4.2 seconds and will go on to hit a top speed of 280kmph.
Audi has said that this is also a result of the research they have carried out during their motorsports activities. It also gives us a preview of what the next generation Audi TT will be like as well as design cues for future Audis.
