Audi isn’t new to electric vehicles, but they haven’t really gone mainstream like BMW or Toyota for that matter. With Mercedes also planning to enter the fray with an electric sub-brand, Audi decided to step things up.
According to sources Audi will start off with an SUV and it will be called the e-tron. The e-tron will be the sub-brand like what Audi did with the quattro. The e-tron SUV was first shown at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show and will be on the of the three pure electric models to be introduced by Audi with the other two being a small hatchback and a saloon.
This comes as quite a surprise considering Audi just stopped production of its R8 E-Tron electric supercar. But then it was mighty expensive and sold less than a 100 units so it only made sense that Audi concentrate on mass market cars. With hybrids gaining momentum in India a well, we could pretty much expect Audi’s electric range to land on Indian shores as well.
