Update:Â Audi R8 is launched now!
As unbelievable as it may seem, the third player of the big three German manufacturers has entered the ring to slug it out with the other two on sportscar turf - and it has brought out the heavy artillery.
First came the M3, BMW's famed M-division's first car in the country. Not to be left behind, Mercedes-Benz launched the C63 AMG to compete with the M3. Now, Audi has stated that they will launch the R8, their first supercar, by the end of this year.
For those not in the know, the R8 has a 4.2-litre, 420bhp V8 engine from the erstwhile RS4 situated amidships. It also has sci-fi looks, and it is quite the everyday supercar. One may question the reasoning behind launching a supercar in these times of rapidly rising fuel prices, but it is really nice to see that car manufacturers haven't lost their mojo. Yet.
The M3, the C63 AMG and the R8 - that's one comparison test we wouldn't miss for all the barrels of oil in the world.
