Audi has finally given the go-ahead for its MPV project which will be based on the MQB architecture that currently spawns the A3 sportsback and sedan models. Rumoured to be badged the V4, the MPV gets the green light ahead of a possible unveiling during the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.
The MPV segment will be a new venture for the German manufacturer, but Audi has been working on high-roof concept models for nearly eight years now, which began with the unveiling of the high-roof Roadjet concept at the 2006 Detroit Motor Show.
The MPV concept is still in its infant phase and it will be a while before we see the final road going model. It will likely be powered by the current range of Audi’s TDI diesel and TFSI petrol engines with the possibility of a hybrid variant for select markets.
When launched, the V4 MPV will target buyers looking for a premium family vehicle at a sensible price point. Audi’s German compatriot Mercedes-Benz currently makes the B-Class which is currently the standalone model in India’s luxury MPV segment. We will certainly get the V4 in India immediately after the global launch, the MPV will give the B-Class a run for its money.
