Audi has commenced the production of the 2015 variant of the Audi TT at its production plant at Gyor in Hungary. This is the same model which will also be introduced to the Indian market by the end of this year or early 2015.
All generations of the Audi TT have been manufactured from this plant till date. The first generation model entered production in 1998 while the second generation model started in 2006. Ever since then more than half a million TTs have been built now. The new model is the third generation of the Audi TT and was spied testing before in India as well. This new sports car is based on the MQB platform and gets many changes like strong lines and angles to its curved roof, a new fascia with horizontal lines and single frame grille.
The new Audi TT will be made available in both petrol and diesel engine options globally. This latest version is lighter than the current TT and offers better performance, handling and fuel efficiency. The carmaker had earlier announced that three engine options will be made available when the car is up for sale. The oil-burner 2.0-litre TDI motor delivers 184bhp of power and 380Nm of torque.
Coming to the diesel variants, the petrol version will be powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI engine churning out 230bhp of power and 370Nm of torque. Another petrol variant powered by the same but powerful mill in the TTS produces 310bhp of power and 380Nm of torque. On the transmission front, a six-speed manual and a six-speed S-Tronic DSG will be available with the option of an AWD as well.
Audi has tested the car on the Indian streets and the manufacturer might officially launch the vehicle in our country via the CBU route. When launched, the new Audi TT will rival the BMW Z4, Porsche Boxster and the Mercedes-Benz SLK in the Indian market. Audi will launch the A3 Sedan tomorrow which was also built at this same plant as the Audi TT.
