Audi India has launched the S5 Sportback at Rs 62.95 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The S5 Sportback is a performance car based on the Audi A5 which is sold globally. With the launch of the S5, Audi has expanded its product portfolio to cater to the Indian performance car market.
The S5 Sportback is powered by the 3.0-litre TFSI V6 petrol engine which is also found in the Audi S4. The supercharged petrol engine develops 328bhp at 5500rpm and 440Nm torque at 2900rpm and is mated to a 7-speed S-tronic gearbox. The power is transmitted to all four wheels via Quattro – Audi’s famed all-wheel drive system that catapults the S5 from standstill to 100kmph in less than five seconds.
The S5 is a four-door five-seater sedan unlike most performance oriented cars. On the inside, it is a typical sporty Audi with all black premium interiors. The flat bottom steering wheel and gear knob get S5 badging to remind you of what you have under the hood. The S5 gets all the bells and whistles that are a standard on luxury performance sedans – Automatic climate-control, electric sunroof, automatic headlamps et al.
The performance car market in India is growing fast and with the slew of launches by Mercedes in the AMG range and BMW’s M cars, Audi has upped its ante with the RS6 Avant and now the S5 Sportback. The S5 will compete with the upcoming Mercedes C 450 AMG that is expected to be launched by the end of this year.
