Audi has launched its RS7 Sportback in India for Rs 1.29 crore (ex-showroom Mumbai) at an event held in Mumbai today. It was previously unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in the beginning of last year and it is a sportier version of the A7 sedan. It gets the German automaker’s understated looks but has sporty overtones in the form of aggressive bumpers and the RS badging.
The RS7’s party piece is its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged TFSI V8 engine that churns out 560bhp and 700Nm of torque. It is mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and power is delivered to all the wheels via the Quattro four-wheel-drive system.
The car is capable of doing the 0 to 100kmph run in 3.9 seconds and the company claims that the vehicle can do a top whack of 250kmph which is electronically limited. A highlight of the new car, apart from the start-stop function, is the cylinder deactivation feature which the automaker claims boosts the fuel economy by as much as 20 per cent by shutting off four cylinders under low engine load.
The RS7 has interiors very similar to the S7 and even has the same feature list as the latter. It gets 20-inch wheels, sports suspension and Alacantra interiors as a standard feature.
The Audi RS7 competes with the Mercedes-Benz CLS and the BMW M5 in the performance luxury sedan segment.
