The upcoming RS4 from Audi has a lot to live up to, after the last one converted even the naysayers. The 2013 model Avant promises to keep them happy again, with an enormous 450bhp from a naturally-aspirated 4.2-litre V8 engine. 430Nm of torque is also on hand, helping it to 100kmph from rest in 4.7 seconds. Top speed is now 280kmph. The DSG 'box now sports seven speeds and feeds all four wheels as always, but a sport rear differential is on the options list.
The brakes have a new wave design, and ceramic discs are an option. The new electromechanical steering system gives the driver more feedback, according to the company, and it sits nearly an inch lower than the standard A4.
We don't expect the Avant to go on sale in India, but if (when) Audi launches the sedan, there certainly will be more than a few takers for it here. At Rs 53 lakh before taxes and duties, it isn't going to be cheap, though.
