Audi has released a teaser video showing a new car that it plans to unveil at the upcoming 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, scheduled to begin on September 10. The video shows us the car covered up and the host previewing various bits like the grille and the rather large disc brakes. We believe that this car will either be the 2014 Audi A8 or a newer incarnation of the famous Quattro sedan from the 1980’s.
The facelifted 2014 A8 has been spotted testing on multiple occasions and features a whole host of cosmetic changes including the completely new and revolutionary LED matrix headlights that will make its debut this year. The revised car also gets a new grille, the LED lights, new bumpers as well as a new exhaust system.
The interiors are also expected to get changes in the form of a new MMI system, redesigned instrument cluster and revised upholstery. The engine line up and underpinnings are all expected to remain the same as the current model. It is expected to be an interim model before an all-new car comes out in 2015.
The newer incarnation of the Quattro has been created as a tribute to the original vehicle that revolutionised the use of four-wheel drive in road going cars. Its rally racing sibling the Quattro Sport completely dominated Group B Rallying and set the standard for what fast and powerful rally sedans should be like.
The new car, unlike its 30-year-old sibling, is likely to be powered by a twin-turbo 4.4–litre V8 that is expected to produce over 610PS and an equal amount of torque. Power will be transmitted to all four wheels via the quattro system and a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. We expect a modern design but much like a Porsche’s modern incarnation of classic 911, the new Sport Quattro will have many familiar lines.
Whatever be the car, we are excited as both vehicles are expected to be quite exciting albeit for very different reasons.
