Digging through trademarks files, Autocar has come-up with some interesting trademark applications from Audi. Most of these applications are for the ‘Q’ series, pointing at Audi’s plans for expansion of its SUV range.
Audi had showcased a concept called the ‘Crosslane Coupe’ at Paris Motor Show last year. An application for the ‘SQ2′ indicates a high-performance version of the new, production-ready Q2 compact SUV, based on the same concept. Audi has already started the expansion of its performance SUVs with the SQ5.
Also registered is ‘SQ4′ a probable performance-version of the Audi Q4. Audi is designing the Q4 on the MLB platform and with dimensions similar to the Q5, will go up against the Range Rover Evoque when launched. Also in the list is the ‘Q9’ which points to a large luxury-SUV, set to dethrone the Q7 as Audi’s biggest car.
‘Tron’ is a moniker on Audi’s vehicles using ‘sustainable technology’. ‘g-tron’ cars run on natural gas (CNG) while ‘e-tron’ cars are diesel-hybrids. A trademark application of the "f-tron" name has been found, which seem fit for Audi’s cars using fuel-cell technology.
Though many-a-times these names are simply registered to protect the company’s intellectual property, these names do hint at the future-models we can expect from Audi’s stable.
