Those looking to listen to the gloriously vocal ten-cylinder engine note of the Audi R8 will be able to revel in the roar even more with the Spyder version that’s just arrived in the UK. Priced from £129,990 (Rs 1.14 crore) on-road, the Spyder is the highly desirable convertible version of the regular R8.
Audi has not only added more power but more crucially, also uplifted the torsional rigidity by 50 per cent. The key differentiation between the coupe and the Spyder R8 is of course the fully automated cloth hood, which can be lowered in just 20 seconds. The rear window, sunk into the bulkhead, can also be retracted and extended at the touch of a button.
Like the coupe, the R8 Spyder gets the Lamborghini V10 which works with 7-speed S tronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive system. The upgraded power plant makes 530bhp of power and 540Nm of torque at 6,500rpm.
Drivers keen to wring every last ounce of reward from their R8 can also opt for the Sport Plus Pack, which adds more responsive, variable ratio dynamic steering, magnetic ride adaptive damping and a different exhaust system which is identifiable by black exhaust tailpipes instead of the standard chrome units.
