-Mid-life update for drop top version of German automaker’s flagship two-seater
-Sources suggest this may be the base 400bhp model
-Test vehicle is RHD
-New bumpers, tail pipes
A test mule of an updated Audi R8 Spyder has been spotted doing the rounds in Germany. It’s mid-life facelift for this generation of the R8 and this drop top version indicates at the changes that the hardtop model will also get.
The face sees the whole bumper being revised around a new hexagonal grille design shared with the A6, A7, and A8. The side intakes have also been modified. The vertical bars in the current car have been replaced by a conventional mesh. The cabin’s expected to remain unchanged, but the car will get a new infotainment system and Virtual Cockpit.
The back of this car features a new grille design that goes across the car instead of being cut in the middle, where the license plate is. Instead of the square mufflers, this R8 Spyder now has two oval ones. Our spy sources suggest that this could be the long rumoured 2.5-litre 5-cylinder powered model with over 400bhp or possibly even the 450bhp that would make use of the 2.9-litre V6 from the RS5. It will be less powerful as compared to the full-fledged R8, but also lower priced making the R8 range much wider.
