Audi has finally joined the big premium SUV petrol race by introducing the Q7 40TFSI which it has priced at Rs 67.76 lakhs (All-India ex-showroom). This is the second engine option for the German automaker’s flagship SUV and can be had in both the Premium Plus and Technology pack.
The petrol engine powering this version of the Q7 is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder unit producing 249bhp/370Nm of torque. This engined has been mated to an eight-speed AT and quattro AWD system. It does the 0-100kmph sprint in 6.9 seconds and tops out at 250kmph. Thanks to the smaller engine, the petrol powered Q7 is lighter than the diesel model.
Like its diesel siblings, this Q7 too gets multi-zone climate control, Audi MMI infotainment system with floating display, leather seats, full LED headlamps and tail lamps as well as virtual cockpit for the instrument panel as standard. Additionally, the Q7 is also offered with a host of accessories ranging from a roof box all the way to a pair of screen for the rear passengers.
The arrival of this petrol model is a major step up for the Q7 as Audi can now give competition to the Mercedes-Benz GLS400 and the BMW X5 xDrive35i. However, its 2.0-litre motor is a lot smaller as compared to its direct rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLS 400 and the BMW X5 xDrive35i. This move points to this petrol model being a secondary option rather than an alternative for the diesel variants. These are big petrol SUVs for those who drive less, but want all the frills of big car. It’s a move that's also guided by the increase in demand for petrol SUVs in the Indian market.
