Audi unveiled their smallest Q-model yet, the Q2, at the Geneva Motor Show last year. The compact SUV has been built with the intention of making luxury SUVs more approachable for buyers. However, following the Ingolstadt-based manufacturer’s announcement to unleash more ‘sporty’ iteration of their vehicles, especially crossovers, we bring to you the digital rendering of the Q2 S and Q2 RS.
The German carmaker has subtly confirmed the Q2 S, and is out testing the same on the famous German race track as well. The Q2 S (or SQ2 since Audi hasn’t confirmed the name yet) would be powered bythe same powerplant as the recently updated S3. The 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged four cylinder motor pushing out 300bhp has more than enough firepower for the puny crossover. The power will be channeled to all four wheels via Audi’s Quattro system.
To match all the beefed up power, the SQ2 will also look the part. The imposing Audi grille will be done in black, whilst the gapping bumpers will be muscled up compared to the standard crossover. The suspension is likely to be lowered, and it will sit on grippy rubbers wrapped around the larger redesigned alloys. A bigger set of brakes will take care of the stopping responsibilities, while the sonorous exhaust will be backed by sporty diffusers.
Moving on to the even sportier and more hardcore Q2 RS, the full-fledged RS-treated Q2 hasn’t been confirmed yet, but is under consideration. And it is a plausible option considering the higher demands for it in various markets, and the other German manufacturers catering with performance packages across their portfolio. While the bigger siblings, the Q5 and Q7, are confirmed to be RS treated, there’s no harm in speculating that the Q2 might undergo the hammer as well. And if it does, expect the RS3 Sportback’s powertrain to be plonked in the range topping Q2 RS. Thus the healthy 400bhp from the new five-cylinder 2.5-liter TFSI will be enough to give the Q2 RS competition some sleepless nights.
If both the cars get a green flag, we hope to see the Q2 S (or SQ2) to roll out sometime in 2018, followed by the Q2 RS. As far as standard Q2 is concerned, the baby Q is expected to hit Indian market pretty soon.
