Earlier this year Audi officially confirmed the arrival of the Q1 and its plans to set new records in 2015. The brand’s progress will be helped massively by the new Q7 and the new A4 that will be launched in the second half of 2015. And in order to attract new customers, Audi plans to systematically expand its model range in the coming years. By 2020, the brand is looking to offer up to 60 different models, including the Q1, spy pictures of which you see on this page.
After running test mules based on the VW Tiguan, Audi is now working on initial pre-production models. Looking at the pictures, the overall design seems more dynamic than that of the Q3 and the Q5. At the side, the design is typical of a Sportback model, featuring a sloped tailgate like the A3.
Under the engine bay, the Q1 will share its powertrain with other existing Audi models. There will be a 3-cylinder diesel as well as twin-turbo 2-litre TDI and a range-topping 310bhp from the Audi TTS.
The Q1 will be launched in 2016, while the performance-focused models will come in 2017. When launched, the vehicle will compete with the Mini Countryman and the Nissan Juke.
