After an unwanted delay due to the infamous diesel gate, Audi has confirmed that it will launch the sporty compact SUV, the Q4 in 2019. The all-new Q4, as the name suggests, will be positioned between the Q3 and Q5 in the expanding SUV family from Ingolstadt.
The five-seater Q4 will share the underpinnings with the Q3 sibling but will take its design cues from the TT Offroad concept showcased at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. The new generation Q3 is also expected to undergo a dimension revision to distancet itself from the newly introduced Q2. The versatile MQB platform will help both the second gen Q3 and the new Q4 to establish a distinguished space for themselves in the competitive segment. By the looks of it, the Q4 will likely sport a sloping roofline with a liftback tailgate as was seen on the TT Offroad concept. It will receive a virtual instrument cluster as well, a 9.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and all the latest features the manufacturer has to offer.
Engine options would include the updated petrol and diesel units. A plug-in hybrid e-tron variant of the Q4 is also on the cards. The Q4 will go up against the likes of the new BMW X2, Range Rover Evoque, and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
Apart from the Q4, Audi has also asserted that it will “significantly rejuvenate its model portfolio”. The new-gen A8 will debut this year with a level 3 autonomous tech. The updated Q5 and A5 sedan will foray into newer markets and so will the newly introduced Q2. The second generation A7 is on its way as well. The SUV lineup will be spearheaded by the all-new flagship Q8, which was showcased as a concept at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
