Ingolstadt-based luxury car maker Audi has launched the 2014 Audi A8L at a starting price of Rs 1.12 crore. The updated car gets optional Matrix LED headlamps, and a choice of 100 exterior and 23 interior colours. Inside the cabin you can choose between 12 optional wood inserts and embossed seats with personal logos.
The A8 will be available in a choice of three engines, a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 TFSI petrol mill, a 3.0-litre TDI V6 and a 4.2-litre TDI V8 diesel engine. The engines have been tweaked for producing more power and are more efficient than the outgoing engines. The car also gets revised suspension as part of the updates.
Audi India head, Joe King says "Audi India was the first luxury car manufacturer in India to cross the 10,000 sales mark in not just the calendar year but also in the financial year. This double achievement validates the strength and stature that the brand has achieved in India. 2014 shall continue to be a landmark year for Audi in India in terms of initiatives on the product and network front.”
The A8L will be sold through the CBU route for India and prices for the rest of the range are yet to be announced. Audi has priced the car cleverly, as the base A8L diesel at Rs 1.12 crore slots between the BMW 7 Series at Rs 1.02 crore and the more expensive Jaguar XJ L at Rs 1.25 crore. This puts the A8L somewhere in the middle and the extensive options list does make it seem attractive.
