Long wheelbase versions of premium cars are fairly popular in China. After BMW, Mercedes and Jaguar, its Audi’s turn to introduce a long wheelbase version of the latest generation A6. This new model will go on sale in China early next year.
The new A6’s wheelbase has been extended by 100mm for more room in the rear. It will be manufactured locally by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. According to China’s automotive sources, the A6 is a popular pick among high ranking officers and executives and this new model is sure to find many buyers.
The long wheelbase A6 L will be powered by a 2-litre petrol engine developing 224bhp. This version will be labelled 45 TFSI. Meanwhile, other engine options will be revealed at a later stage. Overall, the new A6 is more aerodynamically efficient than before, with a drag coefficient of just 0.24. It gets plenty of tech too like semi-autonomous driver assistance technology. The car will autonomously pull into or out of parking spaces and garages, while top-spec cars are equipped with five radars, five cameras, twelve ultrasonic sensors and a laser scanner. The new A6 should make its way on to Indian shores by the end of this year or early next year.
