Looking to shape the future of electric mobility for the elite in China, Audi has officially announced that it will launch a plug-in hybrid model in the market. Together with its Chinese joint-venture partner FAW, the German luxury car firm will introduce the A6 e-tron which will be based on the long-wheelbase version of the standard A6.
The A6 e-tron plug-in hybrid will be specifically developed for China which is Audi’s most important market for booming sales. The economical luxury sedan will boast of a 50-kilometre range when driven solely under battery power. The car will be produced within the joint venture by FAW-Volkswagen in Changchun in northern China.
Audi is pushing its focus in the area of electric mobility under the e-tron nameplate. It already has made a variety of fully-functioning concept models over the year. Furthermore, Audi is the first manufacturer to equip all of it models produced locally in China with start-stop technology and kinetic energy recovery systems. Since the start of the efficiency program with FAW-Volkswagen in 2011, Audi says that it has cut down the average fuel consumption of the China-made models by more than 20 per cent.
