The Audi A3 sedan will be unveiled at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo. The sedan that was unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Motor show will compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLA that is also expected to be unveiled at the same event.
Based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform, the A3 is expected to arrive in India through the completely-knocked-down (CKD) route. The car has been spied testing on Indian soil quite a number of times and is likely to be the most affordable Audi in India. It gets many features like an infotainment system, Audi phone box, high-resolution seven inch screen, a module for digital radio reception and the 705W Bang & Olufsen sound system.
For the Indian market, Audi may offer all three engine options - a 1.4-litre petrol which develops 140 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, a 1.8-litre petrol that churns out 40 more bhp while delivering the same amount of torque and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel that develops 150 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted via a manual six-speed transmission or the S-Tronic transmission depending on the engine.
We are expecting the Audi A3, which is supposed to be one of the entry-level cars for the German marquee, to have a start price of Rs 25 lakh and will go all the way till Rs 30 lakh for the top-end variant.
