Audi has announced the pricing for its all-new 2015 A3 sedan for the US market. It has been priced at $29,900 (Rs 18 lakh) for the base model. We expect that the company could introduce the vehicle in India at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.
In terms of pricing abroad the Audi A3 sedan's base price is the same as the entry-level Mercedes-Benz CLA 250, which sports a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-engined petrol unit.
Audi said that the A3 Sedan will be joined later in 2014 by the recently announced A3 Cabriolet, A3 TDI clean diesel, the high-performance S3 sedan and in early 2015. Whether this line-up makes it way to India is uncertain.
The base model of the A3 sedan will come with standard LED DRLs and taillights, Bluetooth technology, Audi pre sense basic, a panoramic glass sunroof, leather seating surfaces and a 6-speed S tronic automatic transmission.
It will also be the first vehicle in its segment to offer MMI technology, Audi drive select, 4G LTE connectivity and Bang & Olufsen audio. The new A3 Sedan will be available with four engines - a 1.8L TFSI, 2.0L TFSI, 2.0 TDI clean diesel and a high-output 2.0L TFSI. It will come equipped with the Audi quattro all-wheel drive.
In India, we will be getting the petrol and diesel versions. In fact, the Audi A3 has already been spotted testing in the country a few times.
To make it suitable to the price bracket here, we expect that Audi will be bringing us a pretty stripped down version of the A3. It would be initially be launched via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route and priced in the range of Rs 25-30 lakh but will eventually become a locally assembled model.
The luxury car market in India is growing sizeably and eager to take a big bite into this space is Audi. Rivals BMW and Mercedes-Benz have already cemented their place in India with their premium hatchbacks. Like Mercedes opened a new segment with A-Class, Audi will start a new segment in the country with the A3.
