Audi has launched the A3 Cabriolet in India for Rs 44.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Based on the A3 sedan, the main highlight of this vehicle is the retractable roof top that multiplies the driving experience of the modern car by far.
The two-door car looks sportier than the currently sold hard top A3 sedan and features a soft fabric roof that is stretched over a lightweight kinematic mechanism made of magnesium steel. The top can open or close electro-hydraulically at the press of a button, in less than 18 seconds, at speeds of up to 50kmph.
Inside the cabin, the four-seater's sporty yet elegant look is maintained with the high quality material and neat design. In terms of external appearance, apart from the open top, the two doors and new design for the alloys differentiate the car from the A3 sedan.
The Audi A3 Cabriolet is available with a diesel and two petrol engine options globally. However, for the Indian market only the 1.8-litre TFSI mill will be offered, it churns out 180bhp of power. The engine comes mated to a seven-speed S tronic twin-clutch transmission. The car does the 0kmph to 100kmph sprint in just 7.8 seconds.
The A3 Cabriolet belongs to a niche segment in our country and comes as an option for people who love open-top driving and are looking for a fun convertible sports car. At present there are few convertibles in our country that offer such great fun. With the A3 cabriolet available now alongside the hard top A3 sedan, Audi has brought in a fun product at a lucrative price tag to drive around in style with the roof down and wind blowing through your hair.
