The A1 is Audi’s supermini-class car based on the Volkswagen Group PQ25 platform which is incidentally, the same platform that is used in the VW Polo Mk5 and the Skoda Fabia. The Audi A1 launched by the carmaker at the Geneva Motor Show this year already seems to be a sell out in Continental Europe and the United Kingdom, with orders surpassing production capacity. (Production of the car has already begun in Audi’s Brussels plant and deliveries are expected to start by Christmas in Europe.)
Come September and it is widely expected that Audi India will announce its plans to bring the A1 to India. Considering that Audi India has had an exceptional innings in terms of sales performance this year, it won’t be surprising to see the carmaker add one more car to its stables by bringing in the much-in-demand A1 to India. Expected to use the same family of engines as used in the Polo and the Fabia, the arrival of the Audi A1 will only intensify the competition further in the already popular segment.
