The Aston Martin DB11 landed on our shores couple of months back with much fanfare. Now the convertible version, called the DB11 Volante, has been spotted doing test rounds on the snowy roads of Sweden.
The soft-top test mule was wearing an odd squared-off bodywork over the rear wing. This could be due to fact that the characteristic floating roof has been replaced by a fabric top in the Volante. As a result, the drop-top will have a reworked hunched rear, housing the folding roof mechanism. Except that, everything under the camouflage remains the same as the hardtop model. So the DB11’s LED headlamps, sleek c-shaped tail lamps, long bonnet with slits and large 20-inch alloy wheels wheel will be retained in the Volante.
The aluminium and carbon fibre construction of the hard-top will continue in the Volante sans the floating roof. So the Volante is expected to be slightly heavier than the coupe due to all the reinforcements and could have a softer suspension set-up as well. Being a grand tourer, the cabin will remain as lavish and comfortable as the coupe.
Things are expected to remain the same under the skin as well. The engine is a 5.2-litre bi-turbo V12 that belts out 600bhp of power at 6500rpm and 700Nm of torque will be powering the drop-top. Sending power to the rear wheels will be the same eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.
As suggested by the official website and the inscription on the test mule, the Volante will be ‘opening’ to the world only sometime in 2018. Part of Aston Martin’s plans to introduce seven models in India over the next seven years, the DB11 Volante will surely make its way to India after its global debut.
