What you see here is a rather spectacular result when a charismatic sports car firm and a highly competent Formula 1 team join hands to create a hypercar. Codenamed AM-RB 001, this all new mid-engine creation is powered by a naturally aspirated V12 motor and has a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.
Aston and RBR say that the new hypercar is perfectly usable on the road and yet, is capable of outperforming all the other high-performance machines out on the track.
Built around a lightweight carbon fibre structure, the AM-RB 001 boasts truly radical aerodynamics for unmatched levels of downforce in a road-legal car. More technical details will be revealed in due course, but its heart is a new, mid-mounted naturally aspirated V12 engine.
For improved on-road usability and comfort levels, the AM-RB 001’s suspension system will feature technology and employ principles honed by Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey over his 30-year career. Likewise, the transmission is a clean-sheet design conceived by Newey and developed by Red Bull’s Advanced Technologies.
Production for the AM-RB 001 will take place at Aston Martin’s Gaydon facility while first deliveries will begin in2018. The firms have revealed that the production volume will be between 99 and 150 road cars including all remaining prototypes and the 25 track-only versions. Yes, there will be a hard-core track-spec version too!
