- The third mid-engine hypercar in the Aston Martin family will join the Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro.
- Will make use of new lightweight construction, and powered by a turbocharged petrol-electric hybrid engine and will have over-the-top aerodynamics.
- Unlike the other two, the 003 will be practical for road use as well.
Aston Martin going public is common news these days. But what this means is that the British marque can invest in future products, the first of which is coming next year in the form of RapidE electric sedan. Now, the Gaydon-based carmaker has dropped a new teaser sketch of what they are calling the Project 003.
The 003 will be the third mid-engine hypercar after the space-ship looking Valkyrie and its potent version, the Valkyrie AMR Pro (formerly codenamed ‘001’ and ‘002’ respectively). Although the vague sketch gives out little to no details at all, the 003 will take its DNA from the other two, claims Aston Martin. The 003 will be built around a light-weight construction and will be powered by a turbocharged petrol-electric hybrid engine and will combine active aerodynamics, active suspension - and that is all the official details we know so far. Aston wants to capitalize on the track-focused nature of the Valkyrie duo but insists that the 003 will be designed and engineered for practical road usage. It will even have space for luggage boasts Aston Martin.
Andy Palmer, president and group chief executive, Aston Martin Lagonda, talking about the Project 003, said: “It was always the intention of the Valkyrie to be a once-in-a-lifetime project, however, it was also vital to us that Valkyrie would create a legacy: a direct descendant that would also set new standards within its own area of the hypercar market, creating a bloodline of highly specialised, limited production machines that can exist in parallel with Aston Martin’s series production models. I’m thrilled to announce that this car is the Project ‘003’ and our next step into a dynamic and exacting arena”.
Aston Martin will build only 500 units of the yet-unnamed 003 and fully homologate it for both left- and right-hand drive markets. The first cars will be arriving in market in late 2021. We suspect it will carry the Vanquish name since recent reports mention that, the successor to the current one will adopt a mid-engine layout.
