The MPV market is likely to get a new entrant next month in the form of the Ashok Leyland Stile. Based on Nissan Evalia, the Ashok Leyland Stile was first displayed at the 2012 Auto Expo and the production ready version was unveiled for the Indian market on July 16.
It features a similar design to the Evalia but has a different headlamp cluster, front bumper and grille. The interiors, in an effort to reduce cost, get a black-grey design with matching upholstery. The MPV features a monocoque body construction and a low floor design to enhance passenger comfort.
The Stile will be powered by the same 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine from Renault-Nissan alliance developing 85PS power and 200Nm of torque. The Stile will also be available in CNG version, currently unavailable in the Nissan Evalia, and will come with a choice of two and three row seating options.
We expect that Ashok Leyland Stile will be priced Rs 50, 000 lesser than the Evalia and that means it will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy as well as the upcoming Honda Mobilio and Datsun Go+. Given that the Indian commercial vehicle maker has a good name among the transport fraternity and fleet market, we expect that it will find much use there.
